Helmet Detail Design Sketches


 Create 3 pages of sketches at  8 1/2" x 11" or larger.
Each page should be a composition of 3 or more components or details for your helmet on each page and include a background and page number. Use written notes and callouts of materials and features.

Typical Design details include:

Internal energy absorbtion elements shown in crossections, cut-away views
Mechanisms for latching, adjustment, fastening.
Interface and controls for heads up components
Internal fit systems.


Recommended process

1) Create perspective underlays for design details by using images of existing products or construct perspectives. Use the find edges filter to reduce them to lines

2) Using pencil or prismacolor on bond or vellum create line drawings of your own designs. Emphasize line character and weight.

3) Scan the line drawing

4) With a clear understanding of the direction of light  intended in the drawing, Use Paths and paint tools in photoshop to render the line drawing. Indicate the materials. Emphasize value and warm and cool color changes.

5) Print the final renders on 8 1/2" x11" photo quality paper
